Meet The Doctors

Dr. Matthew Mills, MD

Dr. Mills is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has been practicing medicine for over 30 years. He was drawn to the specialty of ophthalmology in medical school while attending the University of Texas Health Science Center. While other specialties were appealing, Dr. Mills kept coming back to ophthalmology because he saw it as a great opportunity to really help people by restoring one of their most vital senses. He was also drawn to the ever-advancing technology and the detailed skill that is necessary in this specialty.

Dr. Mills is highly motivated by the high success rates of ophthalmic surgery and the ability to change his patients’ lives for the better. Similarly, the technological advances in the field continue to propel the rate of success and patient satisfaction. When asked why he loves what he does, Dr. Mills says, “It’s very fulfilling to give a person back the gift of eyesight. Helping people is why I do this… and why I devote myself to raising the standard of care and expanding what is possible through ophthalmic care.”

In addition to owning and performing surgery at Visionary Surgery Center of Nevada, Dr. Mills is the lead physician at Eye Care Professionals in Reno. Previously he held the role of Medical Director for Sierra Vista Surgery Center, and Chief of Ophthalmology at Irwin Army Medical Center while serving as a Major in the United States Army Medical Corps.

Dr. Mills is an active participant of the ophthalmologist community serving as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, Nevada Ophthalmology Society, and Washoe County Medical Society.

Dr. Mills is always aiming to provide the very best quality of care possible, to do it ethically and conscientiously and to help people see as well as is humanly possible. And that includes offering care at the leading edge of his profession.

Dr. Robert S. Wolff, MD

Dr. Wolff has been practicing ophthalmology in the northern Nevada area since 1996. He has built his reputation on providing high quality eye care that patients can depend on. He saw a real need in the Carson-Gardnerville area, so after practicing in Reno for seven years, he also opened Sierra Nevada Eye Center in Carson City where patients can receive the same high quality ophthalmic care that he is known for.

Prior to building his practices in the Reno and Carson, Dr. Wolff received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He then completed his ophthalmology training at the University of Minnesota, during which he was a recipient of the Minnesota Sight and Hearing Association Research Award. Following that, Dr. Wolff spent time in Anchorage, providing emergency eye care for the state of Alaska.
Dr. Wolff is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He also is a recipient of the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award.

Dr. Michael Westafer, MD

Dr. Westafer is a fellowship-trained glaucoma surgeon, specializing in the treatment of all forms of glaucoma. He also offers expertise in cataract surgery and the treatment of a variety of other ocular diseases.

Dr. Westafer attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he completed his undergraduate studies, followed by his medical degree in 2012. He then pursued training in ophthalmology at the Medical College of Georgia. During this time, Dr. Westafer won numerous awards, including the Resident Research Award, and the Nussbaum & Goei Award for the ophthalmology resident with the highest OKAP test score.

Following completion of the ophthalmology residency, he pursued his glaucoma fellowship with the Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic. Outside the office, Dr. Westafer enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with family.
